Introduction

The Blue Mountain Wild School (BMWS) is a fully accredited independent elementary school with a focus on experiential education and wilderness integrated leadership development located in the Blue Mountains, Ontario.

Opportunity

We are seeking a multi-talented and creative teacher to become a key member of our team as a supply teacher. This role will be occasional. It will involve teaching classes Kindergarten-Grade 8 of approximately 12 students and following supply plans created by the homeroom teacher.

As much notice as possible will be given regarding supply days, however due to the nature of this role, less than 24 hours notice may be given if necessary. The BMWS Supply Teacher is required to have a strong knowledge of the natural world, an understanding of the Ontario curriculum requirements, be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and be adaptable to in an outdoor setting.

The ideal candidate will have experience in experiential education curriculum development, be creative, passionate about making a difference and adaptable and flexible with scheduling. As a supply teacher at BMWS, you are adaptable, can think on your feet and willing to work with any grade.

Requirements

  • Backcountry / Adventure skills including: camping, canoeing, mountain biking, cross country skiing
  • Passionate about outdoor / experiential learning and outdoor education
  • Creative, energetic and fun characteristics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and pragmatic skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good initiative and ability to see what needs to be completed
  • Team Player
  • Wilderness First-aid is an asset
  • Experience in backcountry guiding and tripping an asset

Qualifications

  • OCT qualifications in good standing.
  • Must have experience in instructing students of various grades in an outdoor setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in experiential education and leadership curriculum development.

Additional Information

As a condition of employment, a valid Police Records Check (for working with the Vulnerable Sector) completed within the last 6 months is required prior to commencing work.

Beginning compensation is $225 day, commensurate with skills and experience. Our intention is to far exceed all other outdoor education programs and be competitive with Private Schools.
