"FOUR WALLS AND A DESK WORKS FOR CONTROLLING LARGE NUMBERS OF CHILDREN.  IT DOES NOT WORK FOR EMPOWERING, INSPIRING, AND FOSTERING LIFE LONG LEARNERS WHO WILL BECOME THE CHANGEMAKERS THAT WE SO DESPERATELY NEED."

AN EDUCATION REVOLUTION....

The Wild School experience goes beyond 4 walls and a desk.  We go beyond mastering mathematics and literacy in order to develop critical and creative thinkers with an entrepreneurial mind set.   We need education to inspire students to innovate, find purpose, love learning, and make an impact now.

EDUCATION IS MOTION

The world doesn't sit still.  The natural world is fluid, we are in flux and so to should be the way in which we teach.  Our curriculum is living and moves with the opportunites presented and the interests of the individual student.  We strive to ignite curiosity and empower our students to learn to learn and love doing so. We nurture the whole child, giving them control in their own lives and in their own learning, so that they can thrive with purpose in our rapidly changing world.

OUR CLASSROOM IS LIFE, OUR CAMPUS IS THE NATURAL WORLD.

We foster curiosity in learning through hands on experiences.  We peel pack knowledge like an onion, exploring the many layers that go beyond initial perceptions and how they integrate and relate.  Our thinking is critical, our lessons rooted in real world problem solving and relevant examples.  This stimulates interest and self motivation to discover more.  We take the classroom outside and into the community - integrating real world projects and opportunities. Ask yourself - how much is your child actually learning in a traditional classroom?

A PLACE TO STRIVE FOR INSPIRATION AND CREATIVITY.

We integrate with and go well beyond provincial curriculum standards and local school curriculums to create more experiential and hands-on learning. Our primary focus is on environmental sciences, geography, english, math and cultural history.   We also have a high level of focus on leadership development and self-awareness.

The Wild School experience enables participants to step away from their everyday environment and immerses them in the excitement and wonder of the natural world where they will draw on their individual strengths and work as a team to strive for success.

Using wilderness skills development, opportunities for service and team building provides them with the ability to reconnect with themselves, with others and with nature. In a supportive environment, young people can transform their attitudes, behaviours and beliefs, coming away with a renewed sense of their own self-worth and potential all while keeping up with their class studies.

LOCATION: SCENIC CAVES

Our primary location is 400 acres of trails, bridges, caves, forests and meadows of Scenic Caves. We spend a lot of time outside at our outdoor classrooms and basecamps, but we also have a 1000 square foot lodge and insulated geo-desic domes.

We also often set up mobile outdoor classrooms in the rivers, historic and cultural sites and parks of our beloved Blue Mountains. All locations are within 25 minutes of both Collingwood and Thornbury.

Part of our program is dressing for the weather and we educate both students and parents on how to be comfortable in our natural environment no matter the weather.

Our infrastructure varies based on the location and temperature. Our classrooms can consist of a cave or a tarp in the forest or an enclosed wall or dome tent with wood stove that gets quite toasty in the winter. They allow for flexibility in learning (our living curriculum), while allowing students to stay safe (maximizing air flow and social distancing), comfortable, engaged and have space to work (writing, collaborating and building).
